Table de lecture avec empiètement en robinier au bord d'un chemin face à la mer et au dessus du port.

Empreinte Signalétique designs and manufactures lecterns, reading tables, totems and directional masts for outdoor heritage and tourist signage in France. At the heart of many of their ranges is a long piece of solid Robinia wood that adds a warm, natural presence to the landscape. It’s precisely this piece of wood – the base – that we make in our workshop in Brittany, to guarantee sturdiness, aesthetics and durability over time. Together, we create signage furniture designed to withstand the elements while enhancing the sites they equip.

Why Robinia is the ideal wood for outdoor signage bases

Robinia, also known as False Acacia, is a European wood that is naturally durable outdoors, naturally classified as class 4 without any chemical treatment. This means it is resistant to fungi, insects and humidity, making it an excellent choice for year-round outdoor bases for lecterns and totem poles. Its high density and hardness, close to or even superior to that of oak, give it great mechanical strength, ideal for furniture subject to heavy use or impact.

Robinia is also a credible local alternative to the exotic woods traditionally used for outdoor furniture, such as teak. In choosing this species, Empreinte Signalétique and ourselves have opted for a European wood, available in shorter circuits, with a reduced environmental impact. Aesthetically, Robinia has a warm tone to start with, then grays evenly over time, allowing the desks to blend seamlessly into natural, rural or urban landscapes.

Espar, the Empreinte range: a design conceived around the Robinia base

The Espar range from Empreinte Signalétique is characterized by a long piece of solid Robinia wood, recessed into the base, which supports lecterns, totems, reading tables and directional masts. This structure gives the furniture a strong identity, halfway between maritime aesthetics and heritage signage, while ensuring excellent outdoor stability. The Espar desk, for example, rests directly on this Robinia base to provide a legible, ergonomic reading plan for visitors.

Our role: to manufacture custom-made solid Robinia legs for Empreinte Signalétique

As part of this collaboration, our mission is to transform the raw Robinia wood into bases ready for integration into Empreinte Signalétique’s lecterns and totems. We select Robinia wood suited to demanding outdoor use: European provenance, controlled drying, absence of structural defects and aesthetic quality of grain and texture. This step is essential to guarantee the dimensional stability of the legs over time.

The parts are then machined according to the requirements of each model: sections, lengths, shapes and assembly systems are adjusted to fit perfectly into the metal bases and structures of the Espar or Robin ranges. We carry out planing, chamfering, drilling and surface preparation operations to ensure smooth assembly in the workshop and on site. Finally, if required, we apply finishes adapted to Robinia – saturator, oil or specific protection – to stabilize the appearance over time or accompany even graying.

Sustainable, aesthetic and responsible outdoor signage

By combining Empreinte Signalétique’s furniture design with our Robinia expertise, we offer a complete solution for local authorities, nature parks, developers and tourist sites looking for sustainable outdoor signage. Solid Robinia bases offer excellent outdoor durability over several decades, with limited maintenance, while guaranteeing great stability for lecterns and totems. The choice of a European wood with high natural durability also contributes to reducing the furniture’s carbon footprint, by avoiding the systematic use of imported exotic species.

Beyond its technical performance, Robinia adds a natural touch to signage systems, which easily find their place in sensitive environments such as hiking trails, coastal areas, historic centers or public gardens. This combination of design, material and know-how creates legible, accessible information media that enhance the value of sites and the educational content offered to visitors over the long term.

FAQ - Robinia legs for outdoor signage

Why choose Robinia legs for an outdoor signage desk?

Because Robinia is a naturally European Class 4 wood, resistant to weather, fungi and insects, it can be used all year round outdoors, with limited maintenance.

How long does a solid Robinia base last?

Correctly sized and installed, Robinia bases can remain in place for decades, retaining their mechanical properties despite UV rays, rain and temperature variations.

Is Robinia an ecological alternative to exotic woods?

Yes, Robinia offers exterior durability comparable to that of tropical species, yet is sourced from European forests, limiting transport distances and overall environmental impact.
